Roadside Library

Look what we discovered on a lightly-traveled country back road near us.

My husband told me that he'd spotted a free book stand, and I immediately knew what it was. I've heard about these, and was so tickled to find one close by that I had to go see for myself. It's nice to see that someone else loves books also, and wants to share.

We found a great book for my husband, who loves military adventure books:

and then of course, went back and took two more books over to add to the collection.

Now, I know what to do with some of my extra books, and I'll be adding some kids' books to this little roadside library, also.

Isn't it great to spread the love of reading?

Do you have one of these in your neighborhood?

The library stand is so very cool.
I used to participate in Book Crossing (book crossing.com). Folks put labels in books and leave them in different areas. You log on to the site and tell where your books have been released and find where books are located. It was great fun to seek out books and find out where my books had traveled.

Dreaming, I've heard of that, and think it's such a cool idea. Leaving books for others to find. It's great.

Sandy, I know. I was so tickled to discover this one. It's so far out in the country, you'd think it would get no traffic. But maybe it's places like this that need the love of books and literacy. I hope it does well. I'm going to promote it and use it, and I hope some kids will find it, and ride their bikes over to it this summer. I'm going to keep my eye on it, for sure. ;-)

Wow, Linda, this is really quite cool. The only similar thing I've ever seen is when we've rented houses in various parts of the state and there are books that you may take if you exchange it for another one. The Honor System - which I believe is still alive.

I know, Patti. I've seen that, too, at resorts and different places where people read and then share their books with others.

We also have flower and vegetable stands around here that work on the Honor System, with a closed coffee can or something where you leave your payment. Isn't it great when people behave well?

Wow, that looks amazing. What a great idea.

I usually take my spare books to a charity organisation.
