2011 Reading Challenge

I made a goal for myself this year to read 111 books. Why? Oh, it seemed like a doable number, since I often read 1-2 novels a week, and if I get super busy I can always fill in with picture books (which I love and often don't take time to read.)

But mostly, as a writer, I hope that by reading lots of good books, good writing will seep into my brain and my pores by osmosis and come right out my fingertips onto the page.

Reading lots of good books makes me a better writer.

Don't believe that can happen? Then make your own reading challenge. Even if you're not a writer, but just someone who loves reading.

I made my challenge on Goodreads, and you can do it there also or just keep your own records.

You can follow along to see how I'm doing by watching the graph at the bottom of my sidebar on the right, or click on the link there to see what I've actually read. As of today, since the new year started, I've read nine books: four novels and five picture books.

Are you a reader? Want to set up a challenge for yourself?

It can be five books or five hundred - it makes no difference.

Join me!

Great challenge! My challenge for this year is a little less ambitious, but exciting nonetheless. I'll be reading 50 books in total from 10 different categories I'd like to explore more. You can see my book list here: http://trac-changes.blogspot.com/2010/12/ready-set-read.html

Wow! Nine books already! I felt successful reading 2! I know that isn't going to get me to my goal so I've got to pick up the pace, but this year I'd really like to make and for the same reason you want to do it. To improve my writing. Good luck!!

This is great, Linda! Good luck! I don't set reading goals for myself because I'm already too wrapped up in my writing goals. Ugh! But I always have a book nearby to read. And I read as much as I can, whatever that means each day. I'm going to enjoy keeping up with what you're reading, though.

I joined Goodreads recently. I don't know if I'll come anywhere close to your goal, but I'll keep updating.

Rachel - that's quite an eclectic list, and a great goal. (And no, I haven't read Twilight either.)

Danette and Cynthia - good luck on both your reading and writing goals!

Susan - I hope to connect with you on Goodreads. I love that site! I have to admit, I've been reading more since I joined!

Oh I'd love to read 111 books this year, too! But I don't think I'll be able to do it :-s (Anyway, I'll cheer for you!)
