What Was I Thinking?

Remember we were looking for a companion for our wonderful dog Homer? I blogged about it right here.

After bringing one dog home that didn't fit in (it chased my cats terribly) we decided that with personal and professional obligations, maybe we should just forget adding another animal to the family right now. Especially a dog because, ya know, they're a lot of work.

But then I came across this little black dog that someone had just found and almost hit in the road. They wanted to find it a good home, so I went to look . . .

and of course it was adorable, and a female (which we wanted) and . . .

very playful.

And Homer seems to like her.

And she's smart, and she listens, and even my husband thinks she's cool (yay!)

He named her Penny.

But I woke up this morning, and I knew I'd let my heart do the talking, and just like that song by Dierks Bentley, I wondered "What was I thinking?"

Because Penny was smelly, and full of fleas, and of indeterminable breed, heritage, or history.

So . . . today she had a bath . . .

And a 7-way vaccination, and a she has a new red collar.

She looks better, don't you think? I guess we'll keep her.

So my question to you is: What combination of breeds do you think Penny is?

She certainly has some black lab in her! We have one that was free from our local swap meet~~Ripley! She is the SMARTEST dog we've ever owned and we've had 3 German Sheperds and two collies! And, she has the best nose, too! She finds ALL sorts of interesting things in the GARBAGE!!! :-)

Thanks for your suggestions, everyone. Yes, I suspected Aussie or Lab, and probably Border Collie, because her muzzle is a little long and she has quite a bit of white on her that you can't see too well in the pictures (underneath her.) But so far, she hasn't seem interested in bothering the livestock, except to "point" at them. Maybe she's got some bird dog in her, too. *grin* Or cocker spaniel. LOL

Oh, shoot, she's absolutely darling!! What a doll! Hee. Yes. I'd guess Lab and Aussie too. That hair plus her demeanor, you know? Sweet as pie, though. You're a lucky woman. Congrats!!

The red collar is perfect!
I think Border Collie or Aussie, maybe crossed with a lab - whatever, she's cute!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Maybe as Penny grows up it will be even more apparent what she is. Or not. *grin*

She is a much younger dog than I originally intended on getting. She still has all her puppy teeth, and I think she's only about three months old. She already has fifty million bones and chew toys to play with, and gets lots of excercise each day, but she just destroyed a wicker chair and started digging holes in the lawn. Looks like we're in for a long adjustment period. *sigh*
